Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (often called Lois & Clark or The New Adventures Of Superman) was a live-action American television series based on the Superman comic books. It was advertised simply as "The New Adventures of Superman" in the United Kingdom (with the episodes having altered opening credits when aired on the BBC, though not on later Sky One or ITV2 repeats); non-US audiences were not expected to understand the joking reference to Lewis and Clark. This should not be confused with the 1966 Filmation animated series The New Adventures of Superman.

Lois & Clark aired on ABC from September 12, 1993 to June 14, 1997, and starred Dean Cain as Superman/Clark Kent and Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. It was developed for TV by Deborah Joy Levine. The series loosely followed the comic philosophy of writer John Byrne (who revamped the Superman mythos in 1986 with his six-issue series, The Man of Steel), with Clark Kent as the true personality, and Superman as a secondary disguise. As the show's title suggests, it focused as much on the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane as on the adventures of Clark's alter-ego.

The series spawned several short tie-in books aimed at young adults, as well as one full-length novel for adults, Lois & Clark: A Superman Novel (1996), written by C. J. Cherryh. It was entirely shot in California.

Season 1Edit

Clark arrives in Metropolis and establishes his Superman persona. His main advisary is Lex Luther who is a wealthy and respected business man, who is involved in secretive criminal activities. Lois develops an infatuation with Superman while not noticing Clark, who is developing feelings for her.

Season 2Edit

Having been exposed and killed, Lex Luther is out of the picture, but his near-dead body is kept in cryogenic stasis and later revived. Superman continues to fight crime and protect the people of Metropolis. His feelings for Lois grow and she begins to take an interest in him. Clark decides at the end of the series to reveal himself as Superman and propose.

Season 3Edit

Lois realised for herself that Clark is Superman. The dynamic of the series changes now, as she knows his secret. Their relationship goes through a roller-coaster, including a fake wedding. At the end of the series, they finally agree to marry, but plans are interupted when some living survivors of Krypton arrive on Earth, asking for Clark to help them prevent a civil war on their new homeworld. Clark discovers that he has been in an arranged marriaged to a Kryptonian since birth.

Season 4Edit

After dealing with the arrival of a hostile Kryptonian on Earth, Lois and Clark marry. Once again the dynamic of the series changes. Te couple begin to wonder about the possibility of their having a child. The series ends with the discovery of a baby on their doorstep.

The season 4 cliffhanger was never resolved as the series was cancelled.
